“Earth laughs in flowers.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Two quotes in a row by Emerson, just couldn’t help myself, they’re both great. This time of year the earth seems to be laughing uproariously! Flowers everywhere from alpine meadows to my back yard. A truly wonderful time of year up here in the Great Northwest.
Here is an image of some of that wonderful laughter.
Enjoy,
Tom

“There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in yourself, for what we see is what we are.” ~Ernst Haas
Just you and the camera… what a lovely way to say it. The better you learn your camera, the better you learn to see, the better you learn the way your camera sees, the less limitations you will encounter.
But limitations are also a great instigator of creativity, so it doesn’t matter that all limitations cannot be overcome, one learns to work with them and even embrace them within the creative process.
Here is a shot that challenges the limits, but can still be rendered quite well.
Enjoy,

“The only way to live is to accept each minute as an unrepeatable miracle, which is exactly what it is: a miracle and unrepeatable.” ~Storm Jameson
The air we breath, water, earth, the sky, the stars, the sun, touch, what is not a miracle to the sensitive person who experiences them fully and deeply? Who discovered that tapioca is not poisonous when cooked? Coffee beans when roasted would make a tasty drink? Clothing can be woven from cotton fibre? All miracles!
Here is a image of a man simply reading in a garden, and yet… Everywhere I look I find ordinary images that reflect the wonders of this life we live on this enigmatic globe, full of unrepeatable miracles.
Enjoy,
Tom

In keeping with the sprit of Tagore, who stated that” leisure and communion with nature is required for a healthy mind,” I am preparing for a week long vacation on the Oregon coast today, so will resume blogging on Monday.

When one captures an image of an iconic landmark such as this, it requires a unique perspective an/or vision to make it one’s own and not just another image of a famous location, building, place, etc.
Here, with this image of the famous Seattle Space Needle, I feel I have succeeded in doing just that. The overall “painterly” effects have been carried to an extreme, while the tilt of the image adds a dynamic thrust to the composition, this along with the bold brushstrokes and lively shadows all help turn what could have been a very ordinary image into a powerful piece.
Hang this on any wall that could use a high powered composition to add a touch pizzazz.
Enjoy,
Tom
